Direct Access To Physical Therapy Services

WHAT IS DIRECT ACCESS?

In the State of Ohio the DIRECT ACCESS legislation was passed allowing licensed physical therapists to evaluate and treat patients without first seeing a physician. Physical therapists are experts in proficiently evaluating a patient's musculoskeletal condition; and if appropriate, safely and effectively treating the patient. Physical therapists are highly-trained healthcare professionals, educated at the post baccalaureate level with extensive clinical training.  Physical therapists have a proven track record of effectively treating millions of patients.

Physical therapists are also well-qualified to recognize when patients demonstrate conditions that should be evaluated by other healthcare professionals. We will suggest referral to other providers, i.e., physicians with your consent. In addition, with your permission, we will send our results to your physician and will work in conjunction with him/her.

* There are a few exceptions to the Physical Therapy Direct Access Service. Medicare, BWC, and a few insurance carriers still require a physician prescription. Contact our office to see if your insurance carrier requires a physician written referral or if you are able to participate in the benefit of Direct Access without a referral from your physician.

What to Expect on your Initial Physical Therapy Consultation @ Rehabilitex, Inc.

At Rehabilitex, your first visit will include an evaluation by the physical therapist. Your physical therapist will perform an examination to identify current and potential problems. Based on the results of the examination, and considering your specific goals, your physical therapist will design a plan of care to include specific interventions and will propose a timetable to achieve these goals and optimize your function. Your physical therapist will provide you with instructions to perform exercises at home to facilitate your recovery. We promote independence with all home programs.

You should feel comfortable asking your physical therapist any questions regarding your course of care, including specifics regarding interventions and expectations.
